Data shows only 7% of employees have received AI skills training

New data shows that just 7 percent of UK employees received AI skills training in the past year, prompting experts to urge businesses to “catch up.”

A Randstad UK survey of 1,500 employees revealed high demand for such training, with nearly half (48 percent) believing that AI could enhance their career and promotion opportunities.

The survey also found that AI skills were ranked as the fourth most important (19 percent), following coaching and mentoring (20 percent), wellbeing and mindfulness (23 percent), and leadership skills (25 percent).

Commenting on the results, HR consultant Gemma Bullivant said AI is a rapidly emerging area so it is “not surprising” it has not become a mainstream offering yet – but said firms “urgently need to catch up on how to leverage the benefits of AI” as part of their wider strategy.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if AI becomes an integral part of the COO role, because it spans every main executive area, from people, tech and finance to supply chain, operations and marketing.”
