According to a report, 82% of workers seek guidance from board members on matters of people and culture, but only 27% have indicated the presence of a chief people officer or equivalent to aid in these efforts.
Gemma Bullivant, HR consultant and coach, said it took a “woefully long time” to shake off the image of HR as a reactive, transactional personnel function. “When I talk to CEOs, I often find they are cognitively aware of the increased strategic importance of the people function, but haven’t yet connected this with the need for executive expertise,” she said.
